Raul Reyes and Harry Lau opted to split first place at the April 10 installment of the Tri-State Tour. The $1,250-added event attracted a field of 46 players to Gotham City Billiards in Brooklyn, NY.

Reyes and Lau met in the hot seat match after recording wins over Trevor Heal and Carl Yusaf Khan, respectively, both hill-hill. When they ran into each other in the following round, it was Lau who came away with the win 7-5.

Heal, once on the one-loss side, fell quickly to Dave Shlemperis, who whitewashed him 7-0. It was also the same for Khan, who put up more of a struggle but still succumbed to Christian Smith 7-5. In the quarterfinal match, Smith came out ahead of Shlemperis, winning by the lopsided score of 7-2.

Awaiting Smith in the semifinals was Reyes, and though it was a close match, Reyes pulled ahead to win it 7-5. In the final match, Lau and Reyes decided to split first place.

Twenty-four players gathered to vie for the top prize at the Tri-State Tour’s April 10 stop, and it was Basdeo Sookhia who went undefeated to claim it. The $750-added 9-ball event was hosted by Master Billiards in Queens, NY.

Sookhia cruised to the winners’ side final four, where he faced off against Raphael DeBreo and sent him packing to the one-loss side with an easy 7-1 win. He then moved on to face Gary Murgia, who had just bested Raul Reyes 7-2. The hot seat match was another rout, with Sookhia earning the win 7-1.

On the west side of the chart, DeBreo came out the winner of a hill-hill bout with Rajesh Vannala 7-6, while Reyes also came out ahead of his match with Ramilo Tanglao 7-5. These two met in the quarterfinal match, and it was DeBreo who advanced 7-4.

DeBreo also managed to fight off Murgia in the semifinals, sending him home in third place with a 7-0 whitewashing. In the finals, though, Sookhia and DeBreo fought to 5-all before Sookhia surged ahead to take the final two racks and the title.

Stewart “The Scottish Lion” Warnock roared through a 38-player field at the February 20, taking first place over Mike Gasper in the finals. The $750-added 10-ball event was hosted by Sandcastle Billiards in Woodside, NY.

Warnock went undefeated through the field, winning over Paul Everton in a hill-hill match to reach the winners’ side finals. Meeting him there was Sam Vitellaro, who had just bested Raul Reyes Jr. 6-2. Warnock dominated the hot seat match 9-6 and sent Vitellaro to the one-loss side to try his luck.

Once on the left side of the chart, Everton met up with Gasper, who was fighting his way through after an early loss. Gasper eliminated Everton 7-2, while Reyes ousted George Osipovitch 6-3. Gasper went on to a lopsided quarterfinal match against Reyes and won 7-2, sending Reyes home in fourth place.

Still on a roll, Gasper matched up with Vitellaro in the semifinals and sent him on his way with an 8-5 victory. But Gasper’s steam ran out at that point, as Warnock won the final match 7-5.

Twenty-eight players showed up for the February 6 installment of the Tri-State Tour, and Duane Toney bested them all to win the title. Hosted by Master Billiards in Queens, NY, the C-D handicapped stop featured a $750-added prize purse.

Toney went undefeated through the field, defeating Charles Vergara 6-4 in the final four of the winners’ bracket. Meeting him in the hot seat match was Raul Reyes Jr., fresh off a 6-4 victory over Kapriel Delimelkonoglu. Their match was as close as possible, but Toney prevailed 6-5, sending Reyes to the west side.

On the left side of the chart, Vergara recovered from his earlier loss, eliminating Mike Garreta 6-4, while Delimelkonoglu was ousted by Wilfredo Albay 6-3. In the quarterfinal match, Albay pressed on, sending Vergara home in fourth place 6-3.

Ed Manlulu topped the 30-player field that showed up for the January 16 stop on the Tri-State Tour, besting Chris Luethi in the finals. The event was hosted by Sandcastle Billiards in Edison, NJ, and boasted a $750-added prize fund.

Manlulu went unchallenged to the finals, besting George Osipovitch 7-5 in the winners’ side final four to reach the hot seat match. Meeting him there was Luethi, fresh off a 7-5 defeat of Gary Murgia. In the lopsided winners’ side final that followed, Manlulu sent Luethi packing 7-1.

Once on the one-loss side, Murgia and Osipovitch were ousted quickly. Raul Reyes Jr. eliminated Murgia 7-4, while Scott Abramowitz sent Osipovitch home 6-1. In the ensuing quarterfinal match, Abramowitz dealt a 6-3 blow to Reyes and advanced to the semifinals. With a rematch with Manlulu in his sights, Luethi raced past Abramowitz 8-4 in the semis but could not get a toehold against Manlulu, who ended up winning the final match 7-5.

Dan Cintron took home first place and the lion’s share of the $750-added purse at the December 19 stop on the Tri-State Tour. Hosted by Sandcastle Billiards in Edison, NJ, this stop attracted 19 players during the major storm pounding the Northeast.

Cintron went undefeated to the finals, making it to the hot seat match with a 7-6 victory over Paul Everton. His opponent was Raul Reyes, fresh off a 6-4 win over Richard Ng. It was a closely contested battle, but Cintron prevailed hill-hill over Reyes, sending him to the one-loss side of the chart.

Jerry Tarantola was fighting his way through the left side of the chart, besting Ed Medina 8-3 and then Joe Landi 7-5 to face Everton. After eliminating Everton 7-6, Tarantola met Ng in the quarterfinals. Ng had earlier sent Diana Rojas home with a fifth-place finish 6-4. Ng put up a good fight against Tarantola but fell short 10-6.

With his momentum going, Tarantola went on to face Reyes in the semifinals and eliminated him 9-6 on his way to the finals. The final match between Tarantola and Cintron was as close as it could be, but it was Cintron who won the hill-hill bout to take the title.
