Stewart “The Scottish Lion” Warnock roared through a 38-player field at the February 20, taking first place over Mike Gasper in the finals. The $750-added 10-ball event was hosted by Sandcastle Billiards in Woodside, NY.

Warnock went undefeated through the field, winning over Paul Everton in a hill-hill match to reach the winners’ side finals. Meeting him there was Sam Vitellaro, who had just bested Raul Reyes Jr. 6-2. Warnock dominated the hot seat match 9-6 and sent Vitellaro to the one-loss side to try his luck.

Once on the left side of the chart, Everton met up with Gasper, who was fighting his way through after an early loss. Gasper eliminated Everton 7-2, while Reyes ousted George Osipovitch 6-3. Gasper went on to a lopsided quarterfinal match against Reyes and won 7-2, sending Reyes home in fourth place.

Still on a roll, Gasper matched up with Vitellaro in the semifinals and sent him on his way with an 8-5 victory. But Gasper’s steam ran out at that point, as Warnock won the final match 7-5.

Thirty-two players converged upon Gotham City Billiards in Brooklyn, NJ, October 31, for the Tri-State Tour’s B-D event. Tony Eglesias won the lion’s share of the $750-added purse when he triumphed over Robert Kight in the final match.

Eglesias went undefeated through the field. In the winners’ side final four, he matched up against Duane Toney and sent him to the left side with a decisive 7-4 victory and going on to face Kight for the first time in the hot seat match. Kight had just bested Chris Luethi 7-4, but he was out of steam and was sent to the semifinals by Eglesias 7-1.

Toney rebounded on the one-loss side, eliminating Mike Gasper 7-2, while Luethi wasn’t so lucky against Ricky Deng. Deng ousted Luethi 8-2, but against Toney, he fell short and went home in fourth place after Toney advanced 6-3.

A hill-hill match between Kight and Toney ensued to see who would make it to the finals and who would end up in third place. It was Kight who advanced 7-6 to a rematch with Eglesias. But that was as far as he went—Eglesias was on a roll, and Kight only managed to win two racks before his opponent won the match 7-2.

Tri-State Tour / Edison, NJ by Skip Maloney Ryan McCarthy put together a string of ten victories in a row, battling back from the one-loss side, to capture the first-place prize and a Lucasi cue on the January 31 Tri-State Tour stop. In the semifinals that followed, Gasper was dropped into third place with a 7-5 McCarthy win that moved him into the finals versus Woo.

McCarthy was picking up speed moving into the finals and, with a single handicap game in hand, moved out to a 3-0 lead. Woo battled back, holding the gap to 3 games, and the two traded victories to 7-4, which extended the match to 9 games. McCarthy won the next game to reach the hill first, at which point Woo mounted a three-rack run that narrowed McCarthyʼs lead to a single game. It ended there, however, as McCarthy completed his ten-win run to top honors.
