Dave Perry heated up the new year with a win on the Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour January 2, besting Joe Hughes to take the title. Hosted by Smokies in Virginia Beach, VA, this $1,000-added event featured 28 players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes.

Local player Perry started hot and capped off his march to the hot seat with an A-side semifinals win over Hughes 5-1 and an A-side finals clipping of Bob Staeck 5-4. Staeck’s A-side semis win had been over Bernard Andico 5-3.

The B-side action included Neal Lim eliminating Justin Lawrence at seventh place by a 5-1 margin, and Jessie Figueroa joined Lawrence via a loss to Bill Mason 5-2. In the fifth-place round, Hughes ousted Bill Mason 5-2, while Lim performed a similar service to Bernard Andico by the same 5-2 margin.

Hughes then relegated Lim to fourth place 5-3 and continued his hot hand in the B-side finals to finish off Staeck’s day at third place 5-2. The tournament finals were Perry’s to lose, and he was having none of it, as he fought off Hughes by a 5-2 margin in the first set for the title.

Duncan Kaufman took down the December 12 stop of the Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour, double-dipping Rob Hovick in the final match for the title. This $500-added stop was hosted by Weston Cue Club in Wausau, WI, and featured an 18-player field in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot Valley bar boxes.

Hovick captured the hot seat with featured wins over Bill Sorensen in the A-side semifinals 5-0 and Kaufman 5-3 in the A-side finals. Kaufman had earlier knocked off Andy Nikolai to make the A-side finals.
Nikolai then ousted Lewis at fourth place by a 5-3 margin, setting up a return match in the B-side finals with Kaufman. Kaufman escaped a 5-4 scare to end Nikolai’s event at third place and then had the unenviable task of trying to defeat A-side champion Hovick for the crown. In the finals, Kaufman did just that, clipping Hovick in two sets—5-3 and 5-4—for the title.

Chris Wilder took down the November 21 installment of the Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour, besting Mason Parks in the finals. The $500-added event was hosted by Miller Time Billiards in Davenport, IA, and featured 27 non-master players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes.

Wilder took down the A-side, completing his undefeated trek via wins over Craig McLaren in the semifinals 5-2 and Parks in the finals 5-2. Parks had earlier vanquished Christ Aiardo 5-1 in the semifinals just prior to his loss to Wilder.

On the B-side Don Boll and Jason Totten eliminated Terry Anderson Jr. 5-1 and Roger Garnsey 5-2, respectively, at seventh place, In turn in the next round both Boll and Totten were resigned to fifth place at the hands of Aiardo and McLaren, respectively, 5-3 and 5-1. Aiardo then knocked out McLaren at fourth place by a 5-4 margin, but Aiardo’s run was ended at third place by Parks 4-5. Parks made the tournament finals interesting by eclipsing Wilder 5-4 in the first set, requiring a second set to settle the results. But Wilder was not to be denied the title, and he dominated Parks in the deciding set 5-1 to win the day.
