Appleton in Reno 9-Ball Hot Seat

There are 8 players remaining out of the original 110 in the U.S. Bar Table Championships 9-ball division, and leading the pack is Darren Appleton. The Brit, who just won the 10-ball division over Glen Atwell two days ago, bested Mitch Ellerman 9-1 for the 9-ball hot seat and now faces a lengthy wait for his finals opponent.

Earlier in the event Appleton dealt a blow to Shane Van Boening 9-7, who ended up tied for ninth place, and then survived a hill-hill struggle with Adam “GQ” Smith. Also remaining in the $6,000-added division are Chip Compton, Randy Vaughn, Smith, Atwell, and Mark Tadd. The finals are scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.

The 8-ball division, boasting an $8,000-added prize fund, kicked off Friday with a strong 147-player field. Ellerman is the defending champion in this division and is currently awaiting a semifinals opponent in the 9-ball event. Other notable names in the field include defending all-around champion Johnathan “Hennessee” Pinegar, Jeremy Sossei, Steve Moore, Atwell, Mark Griffin, and Edwin Montal.
